Tuvalu walkout and protest
In one of the plenary sessions on the Clean Development Mechanism, an apparent "walkout" occurred by the country of Tuvalu that suspended that aspect of the talks until 3pm.
Apparently there was some argument and discussion about whether to set up a contact group to discuss a new protocol under the convention – basically a process to allow for a legally binding outcome at the COP, and Tuvalu, discomforted by the way the discussion was going and wanting a legal outcome through this contact group, left the plenary room.
At around 3pm when the plenary was to restart, a protest gathered attempting to push its way into the plenary room, chanting in support of Tuvalu.
The protest eventually dispersed, with the session on the Clean Development Mechanism now continuing.
