Youth Take Copenhagen by Storm
Youth from across Canada have converged on Copenhagen to participate in and influence the outcomes of the United Nations Climate Change Meetings, COP 15. The Canadian Youth Delegation is a diverse team of 35 young people with expertise in policy, science, media, activism, and communications. They represent every region in Canada, and many speak on behalf of communities on the front lines of climate change. Throughout the conference they will be meeting with Canadian and world leaders; taking part in actions; advocating policy; supporting partners; producing media; and collaborating with other young people from around the world. COP 15 marks a critical point in the UN negotiations and has garnered huge amounts of interest and engagement from the media and general public. As the eyes of the world turn to Copenhagen, the youth of the world will make sure that world leaders are held accountable to global citizens and all future generations. Watch out – we’re here.

Reflections on the Conference of Youth - by Josee Madeia
Today was the second and last day of COY-5, the 5th Conference of Youth, where a reported 500+ youth got together to share, learn, organize and engage. Youth from both the South and the North organized workshops about the UNFCCC process, about what to expect from a COP, climate justice, specific policy topics (REDD, AWG-LCA, etc.), as well as attended “open spaces” with discussions about using our experiences, our successes and failures effectively, about regional issues, and about the role of youth within UNFCCC institutions and processes, to name but a few. See you at the crossroads: Climate summit will lay bare divide between Canada and the world - by Jeh Custer
Canada has long been an outlier in terms of real action on climate change, seemingly drifting further from international consensus with every passing year. But now, official attitudes may be at their crossroad: the most important climate summit in history, the COP15 United Nations Climate Change Conference, is set take over Copenhagen for two weeks starting Monday, and the Harper government is caught between its position and the rest of the world. The world is waiting for a reaction from Canada, and the choice for the Harper government is really quite simple: either listen to Canadians, the House of Commons and the world, or get out of the way. There’s more at stake here than just the next election. READ MORE….
Our Best and Last Opportunity - by Joanna Dafoe
I wanted to break the blogging-ice by saying hello, and giving a quick update about things on the ground the eve-before-COP. I am currently at work with a large group of environmental NGOs that are sharing knowledge and articulating a vision for what we want to see as an outcome from this conference. READ MORE…

Why COP 15 Matters
- BJ Bobnar
COP 15 will be a unique and defining event in political, environmental, and indeed human history. The decisions and outcomes that will result from the two-week proceedings have the clear capacity to shape global emissions reductions and climate change mitigation strategies for the next several decades. Anyone with any degree of concern for the future of life on the planet – whether in the natural world or human life itself – should feel both interested in and compelled to become a part of process. This critical juncture in the struggle to prevent human-caused climate change will pose a challenge to the ingenuity, productive capacity, foresight, and empathy of our race. We have the clear potential to rise to such a challenge, the only question that remains is whether we can procure the individual and political will to do so. I am grateful to be a part of this event, and given the gravity of its importance, feel a strong sense of responsibility to do everything I can to ensure my own contribution is a positive, constructive, and meaningful one.
