How the UNFCCC is Helping to Save Tropical Forests- by Dean Medeiros
Deforestation has devastating impacts on numerous indigenous/local communities that inhabit and depend on the forests for their livelihoods. The rights of forest inhabitants are often overlooked by wealthier and more powerful individuals seeking industrial-scale access to rain forest resources. To protect the forest from further destruction, the rights of indigenous/local communities must be recognized and the value of the standing trees must be greater than the resources extracted/utilized with logging, mining, and agriculture operations. Developing Nations Walk out of Negotiations - by Jasmeet Sidhu
For the third time during the negotiations, the discussions have been suspended after developing nations walk out of negotiations en masse today.
The G77, a group which represents 130 developing countries, walked out due to concerns around the potential removal of the existing Kyoto Protocol in favour of a brand new treaty.
Action 1 -by Josée Madéia Hand in hand, twenty-five youth delegates walked through the Bella Centre, quiet as mice in the hustle and bustle. Action 2 - This afternoon the CYD brought the message that the Canadian Delegation is not representing Canadians right to their delegation’s office at the Bella Center.
