Copenhagen Chaos - Laura Read

With just a matter of days remaining, Wednesday saw the start of the high level negotiations in Copenhagen. More than one hundred world leaders will be arriving to participate directly in reaching an agreement.
With so much attention on our leaders, there is no better time to make sure they are representing your concerns. Join us in a phone rally during the final days of Copenhagen to support a fair, ambitious and binding deal.

News From Copenhagen

Update from the Negotiations

The lifeblood of the negotiations, the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), who bring all the vital urgency, energy and optimism to the meetings, were banned from the conference centre due to lack of space. These historically complicated and difficult negotiations have already been going badly, but without the help of observers, many are worried things could go completely off the rails. The mood of the participants in Copenhagen has hit an absolute low point. Read full story here

Reclaim Power: Actions at COP15 - by Josee Madeia

Thousands of protesters gather outside of the Bella Centre for Reclaim Power - an event held to highlight the divide between the global north and global south and represents the lack in transparency taking place during these negotiations. We set off before sunrise this morning, all bundled and buddied up, to get to Tarnby station where activists plarticipating in Reclaim Power’s blue block and yellow block (yellow being the colour of the accreditation badges for non-governmental delegates) were meeting before marching to the Bella Centre. Waiting at the station, we wrote the legal aid number on our arms and tried to keep warm. Read full story here

International Youth Stage Sit-in at UN Conference Centre - by Jasmeet Sidhu

During the high-level segment of this year’s international climate change negotiations, a group of approximately 30 international youth staged a sit-in.
Amongst the group mixed with youth from developed and developing countries, there are 10 Canadians.
The youth are refusing to leave the centre tonight until a fair, ambitious and legally binding treaty is reached.

CYD Meets with Canada’s "Eminent Advisors"

The advisers were all eager to meet us and discuss the negotiations, climate change and why these issues are important to youth. For roughly two hours, we engaged in a dialogue, sharing CYD’s policy positions and specifically expressing concern for the Canadian Government’s lack of action in certain areas. The conversation floated from climate justice to corporate social responsibility, from northern adaptation to renewable energy.  Read full story here

Quote of the Day by Hugo Chavez
"We are living in a world imperial dictatorship. We do not live in a democratic world. We need to change the system not the climate."

Poem of the Day - by Ali P.

Steven,
from you leader we need action,
a vision of the future free of any oil distraction,
A utopian society built to sustain,
instead we plunder the earth to international disdain,
For us, a country of great wealth,
we ignore our impact on global health
We are a country which could shift focus with ease,
but the conservative party goes about as they please,
with targets not based on science or morals,
you're setting Canada up for many future quarrels
Problems unforeseen have now become clear,
we can't affrod to contine on this path for even one more year
.
